Wal-Mart

According to a recent statistic, Wal-Mart is the most successful business in the world. “Wal-Mart is one of the most impressive success stories in the history of business” (Locke, 2004, para.4). Recently, Wal-Mart proclaimed a plan to build a new supercenter in the Carbondale-Murphysboro area. This Wal-Mart’s action seemed to
cause some harmful effects on the local business and world economy. However, this project has more benefits to the societies and the economic system in the world. First of all, this project creates a number of employments for citizens living in the region. Second, Wal-Mart provides high quality goods to customers with a low price. Third, customers can reach Wal-Mart for their needs and wants anytime they want.

First, this project creates a lot of jobs. This is the solution for the high rate of unemployment in the society. By building a new Wal-Mart, many jobs will be generated that we cannot expect. Hoenig (2004) explains that Wal-Mart generated 125,000 jobs in the U.S. and has added thousands of new jobs each month continually. This can give a decided solution for citizens who are concerned about the destruction of the local business and the quality of life for them.

Second, Wal-Mart provides customers a high quality of goods to with a low price. Locke (2004) insists, “We should thank this great company for being so good at giving customers what they want that they make huge profits…” (para.7). The price is cheaper than other companies, and the quality is the than others. We do not find any shortcomings from allowing the business to build a new supercenter in the Carbondale-Murphysboro area.

Third, Wal-Mart provides the convenience of the life for customers’ needs and wants. The special advantages that are different from other companies are that customers can go there anytime they want and can get whatever they want. Customers can save their time and gas to reach a great store easily. One store has everything that customers want and need.

Some people claim that Wal-Mart contributes to the economic system in the world directly as well as the local one. However, this is not true. We can find a decided example in Korea. A few years ago, Wal-Mart landed in Korea with the purpose of dominating the economic system. They tried to make Korean customers’ interest be concentrated on Wal-Mart. Unfortunately, the business totally failed, because of the different culture problem. So the claim that Wal-Mart causes the destruction of the economic system in the world is wrong.

It is very apparent that the business of building a new supercenter in the Carbondale-Murphysboro area provides several benefits for the society. This project creates a number of employments for citizens living in the region. In addition, Wal-Mart provides high quality goods to customers with a low price. Customers can reach Wal-Mart for their needs and wants anytime they want. We should encourage and support this plan positively.

Food

There are many differences between Korean and American food. American food such as pizzas and hamburgers is more greasy and oily than Korean food. The taste is also different. Korean food is spicier and more stimulating than American food. Specially, in Korea, when we have a meal, we prepare at least more than five side dishes on the table. So it takes much time to prepare a meal. However, in America, they usually prepare a main dish and a few side dishes such as salads and soups. It has an advantage that they can save their time as well as physical energy. One kind of food I have missed so much is Kim-chi stew, made by my mom. Even though sometimes, I ate it at home and in Korean restaurants, I cannot taste my mom’s. I think that I have not missed food, but my mom.

Global warming threatens sea turtles

According to recent stastics, the spcies of sea turtles have disappeared because of global warming. Six sea turtles of the seven species of sea turtles are imperiled(Vela squez-Manoff, 2007). This problem is based on inbalance of sea turtle’s gender. High temperature causes a higher rate of females. In Florida, females are ninety percentage of offspring (Brahic, 2007). Global warming causes the extinction of the sea turtles. Should we stop human being’s activities, such as poaching and hunting, first of all to prevent the extinction of sea turtles? The answer to this question is no. Global warming is the biggest reason for the extinction of sea turtles. We should stop building new constructions, reinforce the law, and educate all generations about harmful effect of global warming in the first place. We should protect sea turtles from global warming.

The primary solution that we should do for protecting sea turtles from global warming is to stop building new constructions ceaselessly. Making new roads and buildings causes the lack of the dark sand from the bottom of the sea because the sand is provided from the sea (Brahic, 2007). The reduction of the sea sand affects the rising temperature around the sea. In addition, the risen temperature causes changes in the gender of sea turtles. Finally, the inbalance of sea turtles, gender threatens the existence of sea turtles. Building new convenient constructions also causes global warming. The reason is that the constructions will be equipped with air conditioners and radiators, which cause rising temperature around thesea. Therefore, we should stop building new constructions.

Moreover, there is another solution to protect sea turtles from global warming. We should reinforce the law to safeguard sea turtles. Government should have a strict position about the activities that cause global warming, such as illegal constructions, and roads and buildings in the environmental prevention areas. By giving a heavy penalty, which is punishing them with a fine or putting them in jail, a model should be made to stop the activities. In addition, government should make much stronger laws. It could be to punish people with more fines or to give them more time in jail than before. Government should make a decision to regulate the law as soon as possible to protect sea turtles.

Third, the best solution to protect sea turtles from global warming is to educate all generations in the world about harmful effect of global warming. School and home schooled children do not realize how serious this problem is. This education should be started from their parents and teachers as soon as possible, because they are ones who affect them the most. For this education we should have accurate and professional information about global warming. Government should not withhold money from research institutes, which discover definite causes and solutions of global warming. The determined investment supports solving the problem of the extinction of sea turtles.

Some scientists claim that human being’s activities cause the extinction of sea turtles the most. However, this is not true. This insistence does not give a complete persuasion, because even though human being’s activities have been decreased due to the enforcement of the law, the population of sea turtles has been reduced. Human being’s activities are a small part of the cause of extinction of sea turtles. The truth is that global warming is the biggest reason for the extinction of sea turtles. We should spend more time and money to solve global warming instead of human being’s activities. We should be more concerned about global warming. This is the only way to solve the problem.

It is very apparent that we should protect the sea turtles from global warming. We should stop building new constructions, reinforce the law, and educate all generations in the world about harmful effects of global warming. We need to consider living organisms as the most important partner to stop the extinction of species. As we realize that human beings and environment affect each other, we can prosper in our lives and save sea turtles.

My Favorite Movie

My favorite movie is one of the best romantic movies, Love actually. When I stayed in Canada to study English, I watched this movie with my friends. Even though at that time, I was trying to improve my listening skills from that movie, the movie became my favorite movie. This movie tells about a lot of different love stories, which are between a man and his best friend’s wife, a little boy and his band partner and father and son, and porn stars. Through happy and sad experience, they realized the true love. My favorite part of this movie is the moment, which a man expresses his true love to his best friend’s wife with some notes such as “ I love you and merry Christmas.” That was a romantic and beautiful declaration of love. After watching this movie, I felt like I realized more about love. I decided to express my love and care to my family members and my girl friend. I enjoyed this movie so much and this movie is still my favorite.

Global warming threatens millions of species

In Shaoni Bhattacharya’s (2004 article, global warming causes a reduction in the number of species. She thinks that this problem is serious for our societies and communities. According to this article, release of greenhouse gases and development of new energy for technologies cause the climate change. It is related to the extermination of animals. But she explains that there is a way to solve this problem, which is for animals to look for the habitat is limited to live all of species to live in and also all species can’t move to there.
It is apparent that global warming causes bad effect. So, we should to find a solution to protect ourselves from global warming, because it jeopardizes our lives and environment.
First of all, we have to reduce the greenhouse effect. It is generated by many kinds of heat from cars, factories, and even our house. All people in the world should realize how huge this problem is and attend to this effect. It is not complex to join this movement. For example, if we go outside, we should just check whether we turned on or turned off our bedroom light. We can also take a bus sometimes instead of our own car to go to the work.
Second, we have to be concerned about a maintainable society. This viewpoint supports reducing pollution and keeping the purification capacity of the environment. We have concentrated on developing our society without taking care of our environment.
Recently, the problem has begun to show up in our society. We finally think about how to recover our environment and protect from kinds of pollution. Our continual effort has succeeded.
In conclusion, we should focus more on our environment. We do not need to wait for policy about environment in our country. We can begin with a tiny effort from our house and the influence will spread to our city and the world.

Friend

I think that good friend have many different ways to have relationship with others.
First, they always consider of their others’ feeling than themselves’. For example, If they have some argument with others, they try to understand others’ opinions at least even though they don’t disagree with them. Second, They are always ready to attend to their friends’ situation which is good or not. They are willing to share their feeling with them. It doesn’t matter how bad it is. Third, they don’t hesitate to give them any advice. It’s because they don’t want them have hard time. For example, If their friend begin to use drugs for escaping from reality of their lives. They will give them a warning. If they don’t listen to them, they try to correct them continually. I hope that before you find a good friend for you, you become a good friend for your friends. If all of people in the world try becoming good friends each one, our society is getting better.

Vacation

I think the best place for taking a vacation is Las Vegas where there are many shopping malls and things to enjoy the entertainment. When I stayed in Canada to study English, I once took a trip to Las Vegas with my friends. At that time, I had a great time with my friends having a look over the city. Each hotel provided fantastic shows for tourists. Especially, the fountain show provided by Bellagio Hotel was the best. I also enjoyed shopping for some clothes and shoes with cheap costs. If I have enough money to go anywhere, I will go to Hawaii to take some rest with my girlfriend. I have dreamed of the day I and my girlfriend will have a wonderful time in Hawaii. Beautiful sceneries and friendly people are perfect for us to take a rest and refresh. I wish that I have enough time and money to take a vacation in Hawaii during the next break.
